Soldier of Fortune

Ex-green Beret working as a mercenary is hired by his old commander for a special mission taking someone into Afghanistan. There he hooks up with couple of British ex-pats who provide transportation and run into trouble from a Russian general who has designs of his own.

Light weight but enjoyable little action film is the sort of disposable fodder perfect for curling up on the couch. Its never going for reality and it never trying to do more than entertain you, which it does for most of its running time.

The problem for me is that in the final 15 or 20 minutes the film takes a weird twist and the film becomes sort of a middling science fiction or fantasy film. Whether the film was angling for that sort of an ending is debatable, but how its done makes the film go from amusing to silly. It doesn’t kill the film, but for me it made it go from good to okay.

Worth a look if you see it, as I did, part of a multifilm pack.
