Aliens Vs. Ninja (2010)

The title says it all. If you like the title you'll like the film. If you don't like the title you're probably not going to like the film.

This was the film that was used to launch the Sushi Typhoon video label, an event that happened at this years New York Asian Film Festival. It was a wild night and if you want to see what happened you might want to check out You Tube (or you might not; it involved ninjas and men in diapers...well, Japanese loin cloths).

The film itself is a pretty straight forward action film with a meteor bringing the titled aliens to earth. They land in Japan during the 16th century near a village of ninjas. The ninjas go out to investigate, and a war occurs.

That's about it.

Granted the monsters are men in suits, and the ninja really belong in this century, but that isn't important. What is important is that there is almost constant action. Sure it's low budget, but it's well staged. It's not the half assed fighting you get in many similar films; this is really good combat. To be certain some of it is a bit jokey and knowing, but that's more to let US know that THEY know they are working with limited funds, and to let us have a good time.

I really liked this film a great deal.

Definitely worth a look for anyone who wants a good action monster movie.

Currently out on DVD.
