Ariela on The Phenom (2016) Tribeca 2016

The Phenom is about a baseball pitcher who has lost his focus. (Played by Johnny Simmons, who I just saw as the lead in Dreamland) He winds up going to a therapist, played by Paul Giamatti. He has a horrible abusive (physically and emotionally) father, played by Ethan Hawke.

I found this movie so dull. The Q&A after the movie was more interesting than the movie itself. The only interesting parts were with the father and son, even though the father was so unlikeable. The therapy sessions didn't seem to go anywhere, they never even discussed the issues between him and his father.

Just felt like there was no development in characters or the movie, a lot of things were just unresolved, and some scenes, I don't know why they included them. I liked Johnny Simmons role a lot more in Dreamland than in this. Definitely a movie to skip!

(This review previously contained photos of the Q&A however they have been removed at the request of the filmmakers)
