But regardless of what's really the case, the base where the story is set is supposed to be in "the sticks" compared to cosmopolitan Tel Aviv, so the lack of technological progress works in that respect. I also don't recall an indication that the story couldn't have been set 5, 10 years in the past. (minesweeper, free cell...)

It was a learning experience for me, along with the laughs. I have been fed the notion that women are extremely tough in Israel by evidence of their relatively equal presence in carrying out required military service.
Here there are suggestions of gender bias at work in the work they are relegated to. Then again perhaps it is just the lot of these less skilled soldiers.

Despite some cries for everyone to be considered exactly the same, females are still socialized to be women, same with men, and this was a refreshing look at them owning their feminineness, even on...or at least near the front line.

I am sure this is not a typical day in the life, and i don't think the film ever supposes to be such. The likely presence of a ghost attests to that. But the 3 somewhat independent narratives came together to tell a compelling, entertaining story on tested friendship, and not fitting into the cogs of administrative machinery, from a strong female point of view for me.
mondo_curryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01651324761150770845noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-648318843542898679.post-83619442862248072292014-04-27T11:05:47.521-04:002014-04-27T11:05:47.521-04:00I hear ya Steve, but personally I loved this film,...I hear ya Steve, but personally I loved this film, and will include it on my Top Ten Tribeca list planned for Thursday.
